The dog has gotten in the habit of napping under the sofa. At first, I thought it was because of the heat; maybe she thought it'd be cooler under the shade. Or perhaps she felt secure under there in case a thunderstorm rolled by as she dozed. We've certainly had our share of those.
It's also possible that she's found herself a torment-free zone. When she's under there I don't smother her, squeeze her, bite her, pick her ear, pick her eyes, or startle her from deep sleep into a running start. But most likely, she just discovered that being under the sofa satisfies her ingrained instinct to burrow.
